Mashteuiatsh

Created in 1856 by the Canadian government, this reservation is home to the Pekuakamiulnuatsh Amerindians, the only Aboriginal community living in the region. In Aluepun Totem, located at the south entrance of the reservation, you are invited to spend the night in a tepee, a prospector tent or a long house. Cultural animation, Innu handicraft demonstrations, aboriginal meal tasting and gift shops are offered on this reservation.

Don’t forget to visit the musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh, where permanent exhibitions will make you discover the Pekuakamiulnuatsh culture. You want to know how the Innus (formerly known as the Montagnais) used to live before the Europeans arrived? Then take a guided tour of the Campement Montagnais Le Tipi. On this site, you will find canoes, bark tents and stuffed animals. It is even possible, upon reservation, to spend the night in a bark tent.
