Saint-Gédéon

A Jewel Along the Lake

Along the banks of lac Saint-Jean is the municipality of Saint-Gédéon, founded in 1870. Its exceptional situation sets the stage for a beautiful beach and for an outdoor recreational centre where visitors and inhabitants can do all their favourite sports activities. To the some 2,000 permanent inhabitants, a few hundred summer residents settle here in their summer residences.

This municipality expanded thanks to the lumber camps opened as early as 1851. Nowadays, the economy of this city is mainly supported by black granite extraction and tourism. The city owes its name to Gédéon Ouimet, who was Quebec’s Premier from February 1873 to September 1874. After he promised to save the inhabitants of the area, the latter thanked him by giving his name to this city.

Come visit this beautiful area of the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean kingdom that gives you the opportunity to ride along the Véloroute des Bleuets for 12 kilometres. You can also visit the Petit Marais de Saint-Gédéon, home to about 200 bird species. Walk along the paths to observe them or climb up the observation tower to appreciate the view on the surrounding landscape. In winter, you can enjoy the snowmobiling and cross-country skiing paths.
