The former city of Chicoutimi was merged with other cities to create the new large city of Saguenay. Chicoutimi has therefore became a district of this large city. It houses the base de plein air du Portage de Laterrière where you can lie on the beach or go canoeing on lac Kénogami. The Parc Rivière-du-Moulin also proposes you canoe rides as well as hiking and skiing trails.
Ecce Mundo, a show in which more than 50 artists perform to present you this humanity’s history through dance, songs, gymnastics and circus arts. Dinner and show packages or brunch-show packages are also available to give you the chance to enjoy the concert even more.
Then go visit the Pulperie de Chicoutimi, a historical site and museum dedicated to the preservation of the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean’s heritage as well as to the diffusion of art and history. The pulp mill presents art and ethnology exhibitions. In this mill, you will also find the regional museum and the house of the artist painter Arthur Villeneuve. Moreover, this site proposes hiking trails, picnic areas and viewpoints.
To learn everything about Quebec’s flood of the century and about the little white house that stood against the equivalent of the water volume of the Niagara Falls for several days, the Musée de la Petite Maison Blanche proposes you animation, scale models, games, contests and a movie about the flood presented on a giant screen. On Racine Street, the centre Historique des Soeurs du Bon-Conseil tells you about the history of this congregation and presents you thematic exhibitions.
In the heart of the city, the Zone portuaire de Chicoutimi offers outdoor concerts and animation from June to August. On this site, you will also find a public market, a bicycle path, playground areas, picnic tables, a skateboard park, restaurants, a dairy shop and the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park’s information office.
Finally, the Village de la Sécurité is an attraction that is as entertaining as educational. This family site offers activities such as miniature cars, fire and collision simulations, games about security with strangers at home or in the street and security aboard a school bus. A 30-meter-high observation tower, a mini-golf course, a train ride and a playground area are also available at the park.
