The city of Jonquière was also merged to the new city of Saguenay. With its bars, terraces and nightclubs, it attracts a large number of visitors who want to spend a nice evening. This district also proposes several cultural and sports activities that will please everyone.

Each year, the Théâtre La Rubrique presents funny comedies, while the hydroelectric power plant of Shipshaw is waiting for you to offer you an interesting industrial visit. For outdoor lovers, a 55 kilometre long cycle path network is part of the regional Route Verte. In the parc régional du lac Kénogami, it is possible to go hiking, camping and swimming, and in winter, Mont-Fortin offers you downhill-skiing slopes.

If you are interested in songs from Quebec, and if you want to spend a wonderful evening, attend the Expressio show, which is the continuation of the beautiful show Québec Issime. It’s a large-scale show that will certainly touch you. Dinner and show packages are also available at the Théâtre Palace Arvida.

At the centre national d’exposition (CNE), you will find the exhibitions “Espaces libres du Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean", “Ici et là” and “Des mains de maître”. The first one will make you discover the splendour of the scenery, while the other two pay tribute to traditional trades. To enjoy fresh air, go to the parc et promenade de la Rivière-aux-Sables where you will find promenades, playground areas, water games and where you will have the possibility to go brook trout fishing in the seeded river.

On Price Street, the centre d’histoire Sir-William-Price will make you relive two centuries of history, from the colonization of the Saguenay region to the industrial revolution in Quebec. You will also be offered a historical interpretation circuit leading through the manager and workers quarters of the former city as well as a guided visit of the Abitibi-Consolidated paper-making industry.
